5 Wedding Photography FAQs That You Should Know
Although I’ve been doing wedding photography since 2017, I’ve only been doing full-time Adventure Wedding Photography since 2020. In that time I’ve met, and been able to shoot, some of the most fun and interesting couples that I’ve ever met! As I am booking weddings for the next year, there’s been a lot of questions that have come up lately but I felt like it would be good to address them on my blog. Maybe you even have some of the same questions.
5 Wedding Photography FAQs That You Should Know
1. What kind of photographer are you? What is your style during the wedding day? Do you get right in the middle of everything in front of everyone, or do you stay back and try and blend in so no one can see you.
My big answer to this is YES… Haha! Often times wedding photography requires both methods of shooting on the wedding day. I’m going to be honest with you, I’m a pretty big guy. Measuring almost 6’5″ with my Chaco boots on, I’m a little bit hard to miss, but I want to do my best to stay back and out of the way. I seamlessly work the sides and try my best to not get in the way as the center of attention should always be the bride and groom. But there are situations where I’ve got to be up in the middle of the action!
For example, if everyone is throwing down on the dance floor, I’m not gonna hang out on the sidelines. I’ve got to be right there in the middle of the action to catch those amazing dance party shots. You better believe I’m gonna be getting in there and dancing a little bit myself! And why not? It’s a party! Let’s have fun!
2. What are the chances that you’re going to take all of our wedding photos and then lose them after the wedding.
Any honest photographer is going to tell you that this is a nightmare that we have. Showing up late to a wedding and losing photos due to a corrupt memory card or camera being damaged… These are the things that keep us up at night. But for me, I have a lot of safety and comfort knowing that I make multiple backups of your photos.
When shooting on the wedding day, I always have two cameras with me. If for some crazy reason one camera fails, I always have a second one that I can keep shooting with. In my lead camera, I have two
memory cards that are recording the entire wedding. There’s one backup card in case the main card fails. When I get home, the first thing I do is put the images directly onto my one terabyte hard drive. I import the raw images, convert them into digital negatives, import them into my editing software, edit them, and then export them and store them on a 10 TB hard drive for safekeeping. From there I upload them to the online gallery that I deliver them directly to you in about a week’s time.
So not only do I have the images stored on a hard drive, but I have them as digital copies in the
editing software, and available to you on the online gallery. So I know that’s a technical question not many of you may have, but it’s one that I’ve gotten a lot recently. So there it is! Ha!
3. How long does it take to deliver or wedding photos?
This question is a sticky point for a lot of people. I feel like everyone has at least someone in their life that tells a horror story of it taking 3 to 6 months to get all of their photos from the photographer. Let me assure you that I have never been delayed that long on delivering photos. In fact, my average delivery time for a full-day coverage wedding is between a week to a week and a half.
Over the years I’ve perfected my workflow and I’m good at what I do. I want to be able to deliver your photos as quickly as possible so that you can enjoy them, share them on social media, send them over to your family, and print them all day long! Haha!
As a photographer, I often cringe at the sight of people posting dozens of iPhone pictures on their Facebook page before I can deliver beautifully edited high-resolution wedding photos. So it’s my mission to provide you those photos quickly. Ask anyone that has used me in the past and they will tell you this is true.
4. Where do YOU want to go for our Engagement and Session? Where do YOU think would be good for us?
I always kind of like when couples ask me this question because it means that I get to pick where we go. LOL I love working together with you as the couple to decide on where we go, but I’ve got a ton of places that I’ve been to, and I also have a ton of places that I want to go explore. So, as you will expect from an “Adventure Wedding Photographer” I love being able to go and explore new places with you! Whether it’s the mountains or the rocky stream-filled valleys, I am sure that we can come up with something epic together!
5. How much does your wedding photography cost?
My first response to this is, “whoa whoa whoa… Hold your horses!” Should guys try to kiss the girl on their first date? No! Let’s have a talk first and see if we’re even going to be a good fit together.
So many couples are just looking for and an inexpensive option. They just want somebody showing up on the wedding day, taking a handful of pictures, and then they’re done.
That’s not how I operate.
Your wedding photographer is the one wedding vendor that joins alongside you for the entire wedding journey!
That photographer is the person who you talk to when you first start your planning process. They are there from the first call, through the engagement session, through the wedding planning, through that epic wedding day, and even after that to work on and deliver your photos. These are photos that are capturing the most important, most exciting, most memorable day of your life. It’s my absolute pleasure, joy, and passion to join you in this Adventure!
I’m not only your guide through the mountains as we adventure on our engagement sessions, but I’m also your guide through the planning process and the wedding day.
So back to the original question. How much do your wedding photos cost? Is that really all you care about? I love working with couples who make Wedding Photography a priority for their wedding experience. I want to be able to talk with you beforehand to see if we’re a good fit. I want to hear the specifics of not just your wedding photography needs, but also hear about Your love story and what has brought you to this point of becoming engaged. So if you ask me this question, you’re not going to get an answer. Not until we chat first over zoom. 😉
