Alicia & Devin Engagement Session at Little Stony Creek Falls VA
I am beyond blessed to be living in a region of this country with so many beautiful places! When Alicia and Devin were trying to decide on the perfect location for their Adventure Engagement Session, I suggested we do their Engagement Session at Little Stony Creek Falls VA. They were looking for big views as well as a beautiful waterfall, and I knew that this location was exactly what they were looking for.
Little Stony Creek Falls is situated between Coeburn and Dungannon in the heart of Southwest Virginia. It is about an hour and a half north of Johnson City, TN (where I am based). The drive to get there is not too far distance-wise, but the ultra-curvy road slows travel down a bit. If you love winding through some of the most beautiful mountains and valleys in Virginia, then this can be a fun trip.
If you don’t handle curvy roads well, then we may need to reconsider locations. Ha!
When we got to the National Forest, we made our first stop at Bear Rock overlooking the valley that Stony creek had cut through the mountains. Since the weather was so nice, I got the drone up and took some really epic shots of Alicia and Devin from unusual angles. It was so fun to get shots that were able to show the scale of the rock itself!
After a few minutes there, we made out way down into the valley and to the Stony Creek Falls Trailhead. As they changed clothes to something a little more formal, I walked ahead down the trail a bit and was shocked at how low the flows were. Sure enough, there was just a little trickle of water flowing over the falls. Nevertheless, I was able to get amazing shots in the still-deep splash pool down below.
