Martha & Michael Engagement Session at Roan Mountain – 2021

Martha & Michael Engagement Session at Roan Mountain

I recently joined Martha and Michael up at Roan mountain for their Adventure Engagement Session at Roan Mountain.  I had planned to meet them about a month before, but we were rained out from that session, so we planned for a different day.  Ironically, it was rainy and cloudy on our make-up shoot date too, but that is ok.  The sky and light for the Sunday afternoon shoot could not have been more perfect! Just look at these images!  We took our time hiking up and finding some of my favorite spots on the mountain for shooting.

I had to laugh as we made our way up, and down, the mountain.  With the day being cloudy and windy, most recreational hikers were not out and about, but there were many couples being photographed on the mountain.  Nearly every couple that passed by us was being led by a photographer… or two.

Martha, Michael, and I all agreed that their photos would probably be better than all of those other couples though.  Ha! What do you think?  Check out their photos below and see them for yourself!  Be sure to read the Couple’s Q&A as well.  They have some pretty funny responses. 😉

How did y’all meet?

We actually matched on Tinder when Michael was home from his first deployment.

When and where did you go on your first date?

Jacksonville, NC. Nov 28th, 2018

Tell me about your first date together?

I drove 6 hours to meet someone I had never met before after 2 months of talking to each other on the phone every day. We ate at the Noodle Company, then went to Emerald Isle (the beach), then went and checked into our hotel that we would be staying at the next few days, and we just enjoyed the short amount of time we had to spend together.

How did you fall in love?

We had been dating for around 6 months before we said those 3 special words to each other, but it was clear I had decided that I loved him first, and that’s okay. He finally opened up and told me before he left for a month and a half for a training course where we would have very little contact with each other.

When/where did he/she propose?

September 19th, 2020. The sky bridge in Gatlinburg TN.

What are you most excited about for your wedding?

Getting to finally say “I do” to forever together.

We did long distance for the first year and a half of our relationship, and it was a struggle, but we have definitely grown a lot since Michael has come home, we have adjusted to being around each other all the time now.

Favorite quirk about each other

We both agreed that we love it when we jumble up our words when talking. (We always bust out laughing)

How do you feel most loved by your partner?

Martha: I am loved by words. Michael: I am loved by actions

Martha: how handsome Michael was in person (pictures didn’t do him justice).

Notes-  Just remember, when going up into the mountains for photoshoots, always be prepared for anything.  If your photographer does not warn you or give you tips on what to bring, or what you might need, then you should be finding a different photographer that can help properly guide you in the mountains.

After a lifetime of exploring the outdoors throughout America, I have the knowledge you need to guide you and keep you safe, and happy, as we adventure together.  Let me know if you have any questions about adventuring and photographing you and your partner in the wild, or if you would like to talk more about your own Adventure Engagement Session at Roan Mountain.
