Recently I was contacted by Parker asking if I could document his surprise proposal with his high school sweetheart, Tanya. Without hesitation, I said YES!
This is only the second time that I have had the privilege to photograph a proposal, but they are so much fun! I set up a couple of Zoom calls before the big day to plan everything out with Parker, and it was all set. We were going to meet at the Amis Mill Dam and I would give him the signal when it was time to make it happen.
As I waited in the car for the couple to show up, I started getting nervous! Like REAL nervous. At this point in my career, I don’t get nervous before photo sessions. But this time was different. I was nervous for Parker. I knew he was excited, but this was a big moment!
Once they arrived, I acted like it was the first time I had ever met either of them… so that Tanya wouldn’t suspect anything. This was not the first time that they have had professional photos taken together, so it was not abnormal for them to have their pictures taken.
Walking from the vehicles to the dam, I could see that Parker was chatty and stiff. I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep him waiting too long. So I started taking pictures of them for about 5 minutes and then I got them into “the spot.”
The rest is history. Parker got down on one knee and Tanya said yes!
She was totally surprised and a huge burden was lifted from Parker… and me just a little. haha.
We made our way around the property and got some really great and memorable shots at the dam.
