Sierra & Dakota Engagement Session Roan Mountain

Sierra & Dakota’s Engagement Session on Roan Mountain looked like it was going to turn out to be the perfect day, but once we got on the mountain, things were not quite as they seemed.

As I was driving up the mountain from Johnson City, TN, it looked like a beautiful day for an Engagement Session on Roan Mountain, but once we got up to Carver’s Gap Trailhead parking area, I quickly realized it was much colder, and windier, than I was expecting.

Fortunately I threw an extra jacket into my car before leaving home, and I was ready to go.

When Sierra and Dakota showed up, we chatted just a minute at the car and then made our way up the mountain.  They were good sports about everything, but I could tell Sierra was not having much fun.  I mean, she couldn’t feel her fingers!

So after shooting for a while we came back off the balds and found some wooded areas to shoot in.  The wind chill was not a factor in those areas and she was able to warm up.

All in all, it was a fun time and Sierra and Dakota’s Engagement Session photos turned out amazing!  Check out the full Engagement Session gallery after the Couple’s Q&A…

Couple’s Q&A

Date of Engagement Session

02/21/2021

Future wedding date and venue

Colorado- 2022

How did y’all meet?

I worked with his sister. She told us we could not date. I asked him out to the movies anyways, and that was the beginning!

When and where did you go on your first date?

Liberty theatre and Chick-fil-A

Tell me about your first date together?

He came to pick me up from my apartment (I’ll leave what he brought for the “How did you fall in love” section.) He opened the door to his truck. We went to Chick-fil-A drive thru for milkshakes before the movies, and then we watched Jurassic World on June 30, 2018.

How did you fall in love?

Sierra – I believe in love at first sight. The moment I saw him, I knew. He didn’t bring traditional flowers to pick me up on our first date. We had been messaging a few weeks leading up to the date, getting to know each other. He knew that I loved Nutella.

He brought me a gift bag, and in that bag he had a full loaf of bread and a container of Nutella. That was it. Who has ever heard of a man bringing your favorite snack to a first date. He has never changed in the 2.5+ years we’ve been together. To this day, if I ask for Nutella toast, even at 9pm, he will get up and make me some.

That is love. He is easy to love.

Dakota – It started off with her eyes, and then her smile, and then I fell in love with her personality. I loved her heart. I saw how much love she gave to her son, Conner, and I knew that was the kind of love I wanted to be with forever.

When/where did he/she propose?

We had a vacation planned with his family the week following Thanksgiving to Pigeon Forge, TN. We had been to several outlets, so we had passed TONS of ring shops. I had no idea he already had a ring. I begged to go look at rings. After we finished looking he said, “Let’s come back on our last day in TN to look more.”

I agreed. That night it happened to start snowing while we were at our cabin.

We were on the front porch admiring the snow, I turn around, and he was on his knee. I was surprised, and I clearly didn’t hesitate to say “YES!”.

What are you most excited about for your wedding?

Sierra – I am most excited about traveling with Dakota. We want to elope out west. We do not have the details worked out at this point, but I know it will be perfect!

Dakota – I am most excited to officially change her last name.

Describe your relationship in 5 words

Loving, trusting, fun, honest, compassionate

Where would y’all go for your dream honeymoon?

Maldives, but more realistIcally we will go to Mexico or somewhere down there.

What is your most favorite thing about each other?

Sierra – I love his giving heart.

Dakota – I love how she is the perfect mom with her endless love for our family.

How have you grown as a couple since you first started dating?

We have both matured a lot and grew together as adults. For Example, we Learned about house loans, what it takes to maintain a home/family, and added 1.5 babies to our family! (One on the way)

Favorite quirk about each other

Dakota – how she can turn nothing into something with her art work.

Sierra – I love how he thinks he can do anything by watching YouTube. Put together a chair, YouTube. Take apart a baby crib, YouTube. Tile our shower, YouTube. Build a house, YouTube. Lol

How do you feel most loved by your partner?

Sierra – Dakota can work all day, go to the gym, come home so tired, and he will still give me as much attention as I want. Back rub, make snacks, anything.. and I don’t even have to ask!

Dakota – The little things she does for me just because. Brings me breakfast to work, fills my tank to surprise me, makes my favorite dinner, just everything she does shows me love.

First impression of each other?

Sierra – “He won’t make eye contact, and he isn’t talking very much.”

Dakota – “wow this girl is way too pretty for me.”
