Katlyn & Coty’s Roan Mountain Engagement Session

Katlyn & Coty’s Roan Mountain Engagement Session

If you have been reading my blog for long, you would know that photographing couples in the mountains tends to be a little bit of a tricky thing. The weather is always hard to predict. So for Katlyn and Coty’s Roan Mountain engagement session, it was no different. Looking at the forecast it was calling for 70% chance of scattered showers! No matter… we went anyway!

Roan Mountain Engagement Session

Katlyn had texted me as I was driving and said that they were going to be a few minutes late because she was so nervous. Said she had a little freakout. My response to her was… “No worries. It’s going to be fun!” Obviously that’s easier said than done, but getting people loose and having fun and being comfortable is all part of my job.

We started shooting near the cars under the trees just because it was still raining. But once we heard the rain lighten up, we knew it was our chance and we jumped on it. Even though though spring rain was cool and still coming down a bit, we made our way up the mountain, stopping along the way for photos.

After emerging from the wooded portion of the trail, it opened up and we could see the most beautiful view of the mountains. The clouds hung low and looked like snow covering the hills and valleys below.

Even though the day started slow because of the rain, we ended up having a great photo shoot and we all had fun! As always, here’s some and my favorite photos from the day!

Couple’s Q&A

Date of Session

03/27/2021 | Roan Mountain Engagement Session

How did y’all meet?

We met at our previous job, he saw me first and I didn’t think nothing about it. He would walk by line and smile at me and then after a while he would stop and say, “Hey Pretty Girl.” Every time it never failed, I would just roll my eyes and smile at him. We couldn’t really talk much because we worked in different departments, so we would pass notes back and forth like we were in high school again.

On the small breaks we would end up on together he would tell me a joke from a Laffy Taffy wrapper, he always had one to tell, and honestly, it made going to work more bearable knowing I’d get to see those bright blue eyes, get a folded piece of paper, and here some of the corniest jokes ever. lol.

When and where did you go on your first date?

We went to O’charley’s

Tell me about your first date together?

Well when we first met up he had a bouquet of little flowers wrapped in a piece of grass he picked from the field next to his house, we went to O’charley’s and were still in a debate on whether we went to the movies after that or not.

How did you fall in love?

When we both felt safe is when we fell in love. He fell before i did, but it took me a little bit more time for personal reasons. He was understanding though and was for sure letting me know that he wasn’t going anywhere.

When/where did he/she propose?

He proposed at our house in our living room on Christmas day 2020 in front of our family. I was clueless and didn’t know a thing about it. I didn’t even know it was on our radar.

What are you most excited about for your wedding?

He said he’s most excited about seeing me in my dress and watching me smile. I’m most excited about feeling so beautiful while walking down the aisle, with my dad by my side, and looking at the man who chose me to spend his life with.

Describe your relationship in 5 words

Completely opposite but hard working.

Where would y’all go for your dream honeymoon?

Ireland or New Zealand

What is your most favorite thing about each other?

Her’s is her honesty and individuality. His is his patience and effort.

How have you grown as a couple since you first started dating?

We have came a long way from where we started. We both didn’t have really anything at all and we came from different worlds, learning through each other and learning compromises were tough and we still have a long way to where we want to be, but we strive everyday to figure this thing called life out together.

Favorite quirk about each other

Her’s is her genuine laugh when she finds something just completely teary-eyed hilarious. His is how he acts completely goofy and funny around me, but shy and really reserved around other people.

How do you feel most loved by your partner?

Her’s is when she really falls into a hug and just lets go of EVERYTHING. When he knows I’ve had a rough mental day with my anxiety and let’s me go take a bath and just get as long as I want away from any reality there is to deal with. There’s too many times a day he makes me feel loved.

First impression of each other?

I thought she was fun, and of course completely gorgeous. I honestly didn’t like him at first. I thought he was too cocky and he thought he was all macho! But after getting to know him and who he is, he was very caring and such a big ole cuddle bear! Literally lol.
