Lakyn and Jamie reached out a while back with a dream to hike up Roan Mountain for a scenic and private elopement. We knew it would be cold and muddy, but they were troopers and wanted to do it anyway. As the date neared, I selected a location on the mountain where we could overlook three states (TN, NC, and VA). They invited Jamie’s pastor along for the hike as well, and the four of us met at the Carver’s Gap Parking area. As we made it up the trail to the ceremony location, the wind started to pick up. It was coming in strong, but that did not stop Lakyn. Despite wearing a traditional wedding dress, she pushed through the cold, and we made it to our site. Fortunately, the wind was not nearly as bad on the back side of the ridge, and the ceremony began.
Lakyn and Jamie had a fairly traditional ceremony which included communion and the reading of their own vows. I think all four of us on the side of the mountain cried a little during that time… so sweet! Scenic Elopement at Roan Mountain
Once the ceremony was completed, they had their first kiss, and we spent the next 1.5 hours making our way around the mountain getting their couple’s photos. We did have to cut things a bit short because the sun started to go down behind High Knob to the west, and the temperatures started to drop. With numb fingers, toes, and ears, we made our way back to the cars.
I am so thankful that I could be a part of their special day. Lakyn and Jamie were amazing and so flexible with the weather conditions in the mountains. But at the end of the day, it was totally worth it. Just look at how epic their wedding photos are!

How Did Y’all Meet?
We had mutual friends and knew of each other, but hadn’t really ever talked. We walked past each other at a music festival, and I spoke to him, although he thought I was talking to someone else, only no one else was around lol. He had to be somewhere so he had to hurry off, but about a month later he created a FB ( he doesn’t have social media) just to reach out to me and we messaged back and forth for about a month, and he finally asked me on a date.
When and Where did you go on your first date?

Tell Me About Your First Date Together
He drove 6 hours to take me on our first date. I lived in Nashville, and he lived in North Carolina. We went to eat and came back to my apartment and talked until 4 am just about what we didn’t want and wanted in a relationship. There were a lot of laughs and cries, but for the first time in my life, someone actually cared enough to listen.
How Did You Fall In Love?
We both knew the first night there was something special between us, but I really knew I loved him when he was out on the road and wanted to live stream church with me from California. I have always wanted a Christ-centered relationship and sharing that moment with him knowing he was across the United States from me, but we could still worship together, and that was a priority for him as well, meant the world to me. I knew he was my person
When/Where Did He/She Propose?
He proposed in my apartment, where we shared all the good and bad with one another on our first date. He wanted to bring it all back to where it first started. He said the sweetest things to me, and of course, I cried.
What Are You Most Excited About For Your Wedding?
I’m excited for an intimate day with just Jamie and I, our preacher, and Hunter. I’m looking forward to some beautiful photos to capture the love we share for one another.

What Is Your Most Favorite Thing About Each Other?
I love the way he looks at me like no one else exists. My favorite thing about Lakyn is her ability to talk to anyone she can make friends out of complete strangers in record time. I love her smile and hearing her laugh.
How Have You Grown As A Couple Since You First Started Dating?
We have learned how to communicate, and we both agreed in the beginning that we always wanted to be able to talk through any disagreements without raising our voices, and we have been able to do that.
Favorite Quirk About Each Other Scenic Elopement at Roan Mountain
I don’t really think Lakyn has any quirks really. But a hidden talent most don’t know is she is a great singer. I like when she sings in the car.
How Do You Feel Most Loved By Your Partner?
He is very affectionate, and physical touch is my love language. I think it’s near impossible to not feel loved by Lakyn she shows me in every way all the time. Rather it be through simple hugs and kisses or a random message throughout the day. In a deeper way, her willingness to communicate and her understanding through the more challenging conversations in life shows me even when I’m being stubborn or difficult, she loves me the same.
First Impression Of Each Other Scenic Elopement at Roan Mountain
He actually seems genuine enough to listen to me and never got on his phone the entire time we were together, which was a huge plus. Lol When Lakyn said “hey” the first time. I had to look and make sure it was me she was speaking to. I probably in full sprint ran over to her. I don’t think I was very smooth.. But the first date when we talked about everything from favorite candies and snacks to the deepest meaningful things in life things. Our regrets and our desires, I knew I wanted her by my side forever.
